Why choose a washable doormat?

Most mats look exactly as bad after one wet winter as they looked at the end of it, and shaking them out changes nothing. A mat that goes through a wash cycle comes back looking like a mat again. The rubber underside survives that cycle, so it still refuses to slide afterwards.

Wash it at 30°C and skip the fabric softener, which coats the fibers and cuts down how much they absorb. Dry it flat rather than in a dryer, since heat can work on the rubber. On a smooth floor the backing grips best when the floor itself is free of dust.
