An open shoe has nothing holding the foot back, so it creeps forward with every step and you spend the evening correcting it. A gripped forefoot pad gives the ball of the foot something to sit on. It also puts a cushion between you and a flat leather footbed.

Clean and dry the footbed before you stick anything down, since dust is what makes adhesive fail. Position the pad under the ball of the foot rather than the arch and press it firmly for a few seconds. The pads peel off again if you want to move them to another pair.
